Glissant is an ambient space music project which draws ever-evolving, starkly-textured soundscapes from simple, semi-minimalistic sources. This debut EP is only five tracks but 28 minutes music.
The music was composed over the span of two weeks in August of 2010 and then mixed, remixed, recomposed, and tweaked over the next two months. All the sounds were created with software synthesizers in Ableton Live.
It has been several years since I made an ambient recording, and aside from a few earlier experiments, this is the first I've done which was created entirely within software and the first which includes synthesizers. The previous ones were done primarily with guitars and augmented with sampled loops. Working without a guitar was entirely new for me and inspired me to think differently about the purpose of each sound and how it interacted with the others. Nothing was taken for granted.
